On this page you will find a variety of paper collages. Sometimes I work in the abstract and sometimes I like to get a little more literal although it is still not realistic. I use whatever paper suits my creative needs and that includes mylar balloons. Like crows I tend to love the shiny.
Looking to Shangri-La Large collage using gift wrap paper, handdyed and painted paper towels, commercial handmade papers and pieces from a mylar birthday balloon. Size unframed is 22 by 28.
Celestial Dancer This piece is also a larger size and made from basicly the same papers as in Looking to Shangri La. It is also 22 by 28 unframed.
Bird in Flight This collage is done using watercolor papers that were painted with watered down acrylics, painted papertowels, a small pine cone and a feather. Each piece of paper was glued to a painted canvas. It is not shown in the frame but is now in a black Illusion frame which makes it 12 1/2 by 16.
Looking Toward Home This is also a collage created using painted watercolor paper as the main body and then painted paper towels. The turtle is a copy of a photograph I took when on Maui. There are feathers and tree bark in the lower left corner. SOLD $125
Calling Me Home. These next 2 collages are imaginary scenes created using several photographs and a few little pieces from magazines which are resized, color adjusted, then cut up and glued to a canvas to create a new picture. This is Kelly our son's dog. This piece is in a black Illusion frame and measures 12 1/2 by 16.
Fun in the Desert Sun. This piece was done the same way as the one above by using several photos that were taken in Casa Grande, Arizona. Very little was used from any one photo. This is Kelly again. My daughter-in-law Cindy did take the pictures of Kelly and gave me permission to use them any way I wanted to. I used this image to make a fabric postcard that was sent to the Tohono Chul Park "Wish You Were Here" postcard show in Sept. thru Nov. 2009. Visit www.tohonochulpark.org to see post cards. See image under Quilts. This piece is 12 1/2 by 16 (the postcard is 4 by 6 inches).
Life's Connecting Threads/Are You Connected? This was a fun collage that I did for a show at Sleepinglady in Leavenworth. The artists were required to use recycled materials. I used the cards that fall out of magazine for the majority of materials. the rest was just stuff laying around. Broken jewelry, a pine cone and scraps left over from other projects. When I stepped back from working on this very intensely I said "Oh my God, It looks like Idaho." It just happens that my youngest son and his family live in Meridian a suburb of Boise. I never noticed the form it was taking until I was totally finished. It is in a black Illusion frame and measures 20w by 26h.
